Dr. O’Rourke treats patients of all ages, ranging from infants to the elderly. A patient’s age, health history, clinical findings, and condition determine the treatment, as well as the adjusting technique utilized. For most patients, a manual (“hands-on”) adjusting method is appropriate. Some of the techniques Dr. Jimmy utilizes are Diversified Full Spine, Gonstead, Drop Table, and Flexion Distraction. However, young children and elderly patients may receive an adjustment with the Activator Method--a gentle, low-force technique utilizing a hand-held instrument. Additionally, since muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia (i.e. soft tissue) hold the bones of the body together, it is customary for Dr. O’Rourke to treat soft tissue areas with Trigger Point Therapy and/or Myofascial Release. This is in addition to every patient receiving a 15-minute HydroMassage prior to the chiropractic adjustment. Dr O'Rourke also utilizes ultrasound, interferential, and kinesiology taping when needed.

Many people think of chiropractors as being “bone doctors.” While it’s true that chiropractors at minimum adjust or correct misalignments of the spine and extremities, ultimately what chiropractic does is assist in removing interference from the Nervous System—the system that controls and coordinates every function of the human body. Therefore, it would be more accurate to think of your chiropractor as a “Nervous System Doctor.”
